Young Leaders Workshop on Frontier Quantum Matter
Welcome to the Young Leaders Workshop on Frontier Quantum Matter, an invitation-only meeting to be held at The Karuizawa Prince Hotel West from September 7–11, 2026. The workshop will bring together a select group of young scientists who are emerging leaders in topological and strongly correlated quantum matter, with the goal of exchanging ideas, identifying new scientific directions, and building long-lasting collaborations across the international community. Scientific discussions will highlight frontier areas including exploratory crystal growth and characterization, advanced spectroscopy using both laboratory-scale and beamline tools, unconventional superconductivity and its quasiparticles, emerging magnetic orders and their control and coupling to electronic states, and the interplay between topology and correlation in new materials.
The "Young Research Leaders" workshop series, now known as "Young Research Leaders in Topological Materials and Beyond", began in 2016 through an initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in collaboration with the SPICE program at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, with many meetings held internationally between 2016 and 2026. The organizers particularly acknowledge the June 2024 workshop at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), organized by Berthold Jäck, Shiming Lei, Adrian Po and Raquel Queiroz, as an inspiration for the present event.
